Laszlo Bujtas Lifts EPT Barcelona €25k High Roller Title For €712,810

Hungarys Laszlo Bujtas scooped the biggest live tournament payday of his career, taking down the PokerStars EPT Barcelona €25k High Roller for €712,810, edging out Englands Charlie Carrel heads-up.

By: Andrew Burnett

The second of the €25k single-day high rollers on the Barcelona schedule attracted a massive 118 entries, some 48 more than the first version, won by Juan Pardo.

The Spaniard had also taken down the €50k tournament and it seemed he could do no wrong as he went on another heater, including this massive hand…

Pardo: K♠ 9♣
Addamo: Q♣ Q♦
Grafton: A♥ A♣

Someone was going to be in tears as all the money went in on the flop…

Flop: K♣ Q♥ 9♥
Turn: 2♠
River: K♦

That river card gave Pardo the bigger full house, Addamo sent to the rail and Grafton also hit hard.

As the field gradually whittled itself down towards the money spots, it would be Frenchman Benjamin Pollak leaving empty-handed, the bubble bursting courtesy of Charlie Carrel

Carrel: J♦ 8♦
Pollak: A♥ 9♣
Board: Q♦ 3♣ 3♦ 5♦ 7♦

That left seventeen players in the money and they rapidly battled down to the final table of eight, singer/songwriter Gakuto Gackt Oshiro among three Japanese who fell along the way.

The big question on everyone’s minds was whether Pardo could make it three out of three, back-to-back-to-back victories unheard of in such illustrious company.

Down to just four players and the answer came, Charlie Carrel the ‘villain’ once again…

Carrel: 6♠ 6♦
Pardo: A♥ 4♦
Board: J♣ 10♦ 7♠ 10♥ 3♥

No triple crown in Barcelona for Pardo, but another €259,240 to add to the €1.5million or so in cashes this week.

When the fine run of Portugal’s Pedro Marques ended in 3rd, it left Carrel facing Laszlo Bujtas heads-up, the Hungarian a hugely successful cash game and online player by trade.

Carrel was already somewhat short-stacked and it didn’t take long for the denouement to arrive…

Bujtas: K♠ J♠
Carrel: K♣ 6♦
Board: K♥ J♥ 4♠ 7♦ 4♥

The runner-up at last year’s WSOPE Main Event had won only his second live title in a decade, telling reporters afterwards: "I'm usually playing cash games, so yeah, this one feels good."
