Rick Trigg Takes Down the Devilfish Cup for $250,000 as UK Poker Honours Dave Ulliott

Englands Richard Rick Trigg took down the prestigious Devilfish Cup last night, scooping $250,000 for winning the tournament dedicated to the late, great Dave Devilfish Ulliott.

The $5300 buy-in memorial tournament was hosted by Dusk Till Dawn Casino as part of the WPT UK festival in conjunction with partypoker LIVE and attracted a huge field to honour the English poker legend who passed away in 2015.

Among the runners were Simon Trumper and Hendon Mob duo Barny Boatman and Joe Beevers, as well as other contemporaries of Ulliott including Marcel Luske and Bruno Fitoussi.

The younger generation of British poker players, many inspired by Ulliott’s televised successes and antics on shows such as Late Night Poker, also paid their tribute to the Poker Hall of Famer - Sam Trickett, Jaime O’Connor and Niall Farrell among them.

Only Trumper from among those named could make it to the final table, eventually falling in 6th spot for $43,000, and when Fabian Gumz was toppled in 3rd spot for $115,150 it left online crusher Trigg and Paul Siddle to battle it out for top honours.

A deal saw them take $200k apiece, with $50k and the Devilfish Cup still to play for, and Trigg emerged victorious to add his name to the prestigious trophy.

Trigg, whose win takes him through the $1million live earnings milestone, posted afterwards: “I’m so proud to win this trophy. Devilfish was one of the main characters to act as a catalyst to me starting to play poker. So happy!”

The rake from the event was split equally between a trust fund held on behalf of Ulliott’s daughter Lucy and the Macmillan Cancer charity, and that amounted to an excellent £62,000.
