Nitis Udornpim Takes Down WPT Maryland for $319,415

Nitis Udornpim has taken down the WPT Maryland at Live! Casino for a prize of $319,415. The Baltimore native bested a field of 495 entrants and can now call himself a World Poker Tour champion.

Four intense days of action saw Udornpim log his first ever WPT cash with a victory that also doubled his live tournament prize record. It wasn’t an easy win by any means though. As the action edged towards the sharp end he found himself sat at the bottom of the chip counts.

Stephen Deutsch was the man who finally stood between Udornpim and a sensational comeback. Former WPT champions Brian Altman and Anthony Zinno had already been dealt with.

Both of the final two started the heads-up stage with more than 100 big blinds. Udornpim was on fire though. He kept on racing away with a lead only to lose it again. Eventually - with a 5-1 chip lead - it came down to a standard jam with an ace against a king. The gods offered no help and Udornpim was crowned the champion.

“It feels great to be a WPT champion. I couldn’t have run any better today, so I’m pretty excited with the result. It feels good to win a tournament in my home state. I moved here about a year ago and this has been my home casino ever since.”
