Michael Tureniec Scoops WPT UK Deepstacks Title And $105,000

There was more success for Sweden in the WPT UK festival as Michael Tureniec took down the WPTDeepStacks UK $1,500 Main Event for $105,000.

Tureniec was looking to emulate compatriot Simon Brändström’s victory in the WPT UK ME earlier in the day, the Deepstacks version attracting 403 entries - with Tureniec already tasting victory last year in the WPTDS Immokalee stop.

This week’s tournament, in conjunction with partypoker at the Dusk Till Dawn casino, saw 55 players in the money – including former England footballer Anthony Gardner and Will ‘Nine high like a boss’ Kassouf - producing a strong final table that included WSOP Main Event final tablist Nick Marchington.

Marchington picked up pocket aces twice to knock out Jamie Nixon and Tom Hall, but the young Englishman eventually fell in 4th for a $38,500 cash, his conqueror Schulze hitting the rail in 3rd.

Heads-up was a fairly brief affair, Tureniec and Ashley Hunt getting it all-in on the flop…

Tureniec: 7♦ 3♣
Hunt: 8♦ 5♠
Flop: 7♠ 2♣ 6♦
Turn: 5♦
River: 3♥

That was good enough for Tureniec to lift the title, the Swede telling reporters afterwards: "It feels really good to win, the line-up at this final table was tough!”

He added: "I've been hanging out a lot with Simon (Brändström) this week, talking through hands and supporting each other. It feels really good.”

Final Table Results:

1 Michael Tureniec $105,000 + 2,000e WPTDS EUC Package
2 Ashley Hunt $70,000
3 Felix Schulze $51,329
4 Nick Marchington $38,500
5 Manuel Zapf $29,000
6 Tomas Macnamara $22,000
7 Tom Hall $17,000
8 James Clarke $13,000
9 Jamie Nixon $10,500
