The Biggest Casino Winners Of All Time

This year saw Bryn Kenney become the first player to break the magical $50million barrier, the New Yorkers $20million cash at Triton London the biggest in poker history But how does he rank against those who have won $millions at other casino games? Let us take a look…

Poker - $20,563,324

We’ll just take a quick look at poker, Kenney’s game of choice, which is unique in the gambling world because players don’t win from ‘the house’, but rather from each other.

Buy-ins (entry fees) and/or table rake (a fee the house charges) is not something you’ll see in other table games, and in Kenney’s record-breaking cash that amounted to a staggering £1,050,000.

The Main Event each year at the World Series of Poker has a $10,000 buy-in, this year’s winner Hossein Ensan receiving $10million – a huge prize, but a pretty big outlay to get your shot at it.

Slots -  $39,719,826

If you discuss such matterswith any non-casinogoer, the word luck always crops up. Poker players are lucky, slots players are lucky, roulette players...well, you get the point.

Nowadays, slots can involve just as much skill as most other games you’ll find around a casino. There may be more of a video-game skill element than, say, counting at blackjack, but those who make a living from playing slots know the score – the player chooses the skill level.

So, who holds the Kenney-style record for a slots win?

That would be a certain Ethan Miller, the 25-year old software engineer from Los Angeles who scooped $39,719,826 – double the biggest single win in poker – and it came at a cost of only $100 at the Excalibur Casino in Las Vegas.

Perhaps wisely, Miller opted for $1.5 million per year for the next 25 years.

Blackjack - $20million

There’s pretty much only ever going to be one winner of biggest-blackjack win, and Australian businessman Kerry Packer laid claim to it in 1997.

Playing up to 8 hands at a time at the MGM Grand in Vegas, and wagering up to $250,000 per hand, Packer won 20 hands in a row to land the $20million payout – handing over a $1milllion tip to dealers!

It should be noted that Packer didn’t always win – he lost almost as much during a later bout against the house – but the dealers certainly came out ahead overall.

Roulette - $2million

Roulette seems to pale in comparison to other casino games when it comes to huge wins, but fashion retail mogul Philip Green’s $2million win in 2008 is still nothing to be sniffed at.

Details are sketchy as to how much he wagered during his Mayfair session, but the billionaire reportedly stated: “I had a fantastic night at the tables” when asked to comment on how his casino visit went.

Baccarat - $13million

It’s back to Aussie Kerry Packer for the biggest single baccarat winning session, his MGM Grand blackjack session topped up by a massive win at his other favourite game.

An honorable mention here, for poker players, has to go to Phil Ivey who took roughly $20million from the Crockfords and Borgata casinos across several visits.

Unfortunately for the legendary pro, the casinos were less-than-happy and both wins resulted in courtroom drama, some of it still ongoing to this very day.
