Rob Yong Announces partypoker to Compensate Players $600k

When disasters happen in poker it is usually recriminations all round, but partypokers response to last nights their Million meltdown was about as good as it gets – Rob Yong digging deep to compensate players for a serious computer glitch…

What should have been the joyous relaunch of partypoker’s $1 million guaranteed Sunday biggie seemed to be going fine…but then the software decided that day 1d players wouldn’t be included in the final day shootout.

By the time the partypoker crew found out about it, there was nothing they could do as the software wouldn’t allow them to pause the event.

Soon those who had been allowed to play on were in the money, but with 400 day 1d qualified players locked out, they took the hard decision to cancel the event.

Far from ideal, of course, but what came next was more than many had come to expect when online poker goes wrong. A series of tweets from partypoker outlined the compensation

  • Those who busted the original day 2 running get to keep their cash, while those still in would be paid the next prize rank - both these payouts over and above the $1million guarantee money;
  • Those who made it through Day 1 would receive a share of the $1million prizepool - 50% split equally among the players, 50% based on chip equity, with a free $215 partypoker MILLION ticket for players who progressed to day 2.

And, naturally, there were apologies all round for the ill-timed mishap…

Albanian online grinder Ermir Dunga, who faced serious customer service problems from PokerStars last week, was impressed with how things were handled…

…while Team Online pro Jaime Staples was proud of his paymasters’ response to a horrible predicament for everyone involved…

Not everyone was happy with the cancellation, with those sitting on huge chip stacks the worst affected, but as several others pointed out, half the field was missing.

With the $1million guaranteed tournament planned to run next weekend, hopefully things will run smoothly – day 1a already in the bag and this Tuesday and Thursday seeing two further opening flights.
