Who's hiding behind the "ChaoRen160" Nickname on PokerStars? According to Google Translate (Chinese→English) it's:
ChaoRen =(Chinese Symbols)= SuperMan
Unfortunately for any "Man of Steel" fans out there, this Superman doesn't hail from Metropolis but from Stockholm, Sweden, and he is a poker Superman called Mikael Thuritz.
Thuritz stated playing poker in 2002 at the age of 17 after a childhood immersed in computer gaming. With the strategic mindset already well honed from his hours of gaming, he found he had a natural talent for poker.
As with most internet pros, he cut his teeth at the NLHE tables, and still considers this his strongest variant, although Mikael Thuritz is renowned as one of the games most feared mixed game professionals, with millions of dollars in both online and live cash game winnings. As well as his winnings at PokerStars, he also has $1.22m in winnings at stakes $50/$100 and above at Full Tilt poker, a feat made all the more impressive by virtue of the fact that he managed to turn a $2m deficit into a $1.22m profit between April 2014 and April 2015. Thuritz has also won million of dollars on untracked euro-sites.
Although he played alongside Viktor "Isildur1" Blom when he dominated the NLHE scene back in 2009, Thurtiz credits an earlier online NLHE behemoth, Prahlad "Spirit Rock" Friedman with helping to shape his games, stating in an online interview, "Sure, Blom was also heavy and he smashed durrrr, but Prahlad was totally superior to all others."
Thuritz has been a regular face at the big games in Macau over the past few years, living much of his life in the Asian gambling metropolis, winning millions more dollars against some of the highest rollers in the world. He's also no slouch at the tournament tables, with a handful of WSOP final tables and over $1.7m in live tournament cashes under his belt.
